原名卫长子，后改表字为长君。河东平阳（今山西临汾）人。西汉名将卫青、卫思后卫子夫的长兄。官职为侍中。
卫长君大概于元光年间去世。后来，汉武帝拜卫青为将军，出击匈奴。
