The American Civil War was a Civil War in the USA between the Northern states (the Union) and the Southern states (the Confederacy). The Northern states was lead by Abraham Lincoln, and the Southern states was lead by Jefferson Davis. The main reason for this war, was if slavery should abolished. Many people in the north wanted to end slavery, while those in south wanted to keep it. Tensions grew over time, and the Southern states decided to leave the Northern states. This lead to the start of the American Civil War. It war was very destructive war, and resulted in a lot deaths. In the end, the Northern states won the war. This lead to the Southern states giving up slavery in december 1865.
