Sviatopolk II (8 nov 1050 anni – 16 apr 1113 anni)

Descrizione:

Son of Iziaslav I
4 sons & 2 daughters
Grandsons: Vsevolod II & Igor II

Given Polotsk in 1069 at 19yrs old. He lost it to Vseslav the Seer in 1071. Vseslav had been routed from Kiev by Sviatopolk's father Iziaslav. When his father again lost Kiev to his uncles, he joined his father in exile until 1078, when Iziaslav regained Kiev and put him in Novgorod.

He was moved to Turov when his Princely brother died there in 1088. This move allowed the Kievan Prince Vsevolod to install his grandson Mstislav in Novgorod.

When his uncle Vsevolod (price of Kiev) died, his cousin Vlad did not contest him, and Sviatopolk took the throne.

He was immediately attacked from the south by the Tartar Polovtsians. After loosing several battles he made peace in 1094 and married the Khan's daughter.

Later in 1094 his cousin Oleg (Sviatoslav II's son), whom also rebelled against his father, Iziaslav, led anther rebellion. During this time of strife the Tartar Polovsians attacked Kiev in 1096.

With Civil war and and outside threats, the Princes held the Lyubech congress in 1097. Sviatopolk retained Kiev, but he lost any chance for influence in the majority of Principalities. The peace was short lived, as another Civil war broke out to the SW following the congress. Another Congress in 1100 ended that conflict.

A third Congress in 1103 the Prince of Kiev and Vladimir of Pereyaslavl met to discuss the Tartar Polovtsians invasion. By 1111 Russian had defeated them. The outcome of the congress and victory in war showed the strength of a unified Rus' and the authority of Vladimir.

Sviatopolk died (possibly by poison) in Kiev in 1113.
