The Slave Trade Act (+1) (25 marzo 1807 anni – 25 marzo 1807 anni)
Descrizione:
The Slave Trade Act 1807, or An Act for The Abolition of the Slave Trade, was an Act of Parliament that prohibited the trading of slaves with the British Empire. Championed in the House of Lords by William Grenville, and in the House of Commons by Foreign Secretary Charles Grey, the bill was passed in the House of Commons by a vote of 283 to 16. The act received Royal Assent on March 25th, and went into effect on May 1st. Although it did not end slavery, as the practice would continue until 1834, The Act was one of many pieces of legislation in many countries that paved the way for the end of slavery.
