The Volcanic winter was following on the acid rain after the super volcano erruption. It was caused by tons of ash which were pushed out by the volcano which were then blocking the sun. This led to a dramatic decrease of the temperture and a gray and cold time started. When the ash finally went away, also the animals and mobs came back one day after
