In March, a report says the government hasn’t finished important studies on how fish farming affects wild fish. In June, the Premier of B.C. says fish farms can only keep operating if they prove they don’t harm wild salmon and work with Indigenous groups. In December, some Indigenous groups, like the 'Namgis First Nation, say no to fish farms in their areas. This leads to a decision to phase out farms in some regions over 4-5 years.
