The Manchus raided the capital and took it, naming their new Dynasty the Qing which means Pure.

Took Gunpowder and combined it with Calvary which. Overtime, they were accepted into China as they adopted culture and traditions of the Chinese. Forced Chinese men to wear manchu style. Top positions in military only for Manchus. Still held exams and let Chinese into high positions.

Two big emperors: Kangxi, ruled from 1661 to 1722 and Qianlong, gained the throne in 1735 to 1796. Expanded the boundaries of the empire and brought peace and prosperity to China, Qing became the most large and rich empire.

In 1793, Emperor Qianlong wrote to King George III of England: "Our Celestial Empire possesses all things in abundance. We have no need for barbarian products."

Between 1650 and 1800, the population rose from 150 million to 350 million as it continued to prosper. In 1800s, rebellions broke out. Ever since 1760, peace made it so there was no need for drive in military which left them vulnerable.

Isolated, they did not take in the technologies of the "barbarians" and fell behind.
