Battle of the Bogside : changed nothern ireland forever
august 14th 1969 ended when british soldiers lmarched into waterloo place in Derry
during 3 days ppl of the bogside and Derry fought to keep the royal ulster constabulary (RUC) at the bay
each time the RUC tried to enter the bogside they were repealed by petrol bomb thrown from flats
tension in Derry have been rising sinc e the previous october when a civil right march was attacked by RUC
In 1969 asa a protestants march past through william street that is one of the main road of the bogside
durin the battle petrol bomb were used to support the front
local doctors and nurses responded to call for help establishing the first aid post
buckets of water ( Bo' o' wo' a' ) were left outside homes with rugs so that they could offset the worst effect of RUC teargas

the prime minister send british soldier to stop the battle
