Nat Turner Revolt 1831 (31 dic 1830 anni – 1 gen 1831 anni)
Descrizione:
Nat Turner, an enslaved preacher, led a rebellion in Virginia that resulted in the deaths of over 50 white people. The rebellion was swiftly suppressed, but it sent shockwaves through the South, prompting harsher laws on slavery and the repression of abolitionist activity. Southern states implemented stricter slave codes, reducing the few remaining liberties slaves had, such as prohibiting their education and limiting their mobility.
Turner's revolt reinforced Southern fears of slave rebellions and hardened attitudes against abolitionism. This would influence the South’s aggressive defense of slavery and pro-slavery ideology, seen later in events like the Pro-Slavery Counterattack (1820s onward), where slavery was defended as a "positive good."
