Cumunero Revolution (16 apr 1520 anni – 25 ottob 1521 anni)

Descrizione:

In the year 1520, the Comunero Revolution of New Granada (Columbia) began. This event was a conflict of imperial centralization and colonial decentralization. Taxes and unjust laws and government were the main causes of this revolution. More specifically, Spanish King Charles V left his throne to a stranger, Dutch Bishop Adrian, who knew nothing of Spain and the best interests of its people. The Spanish people became furious and revolted across their country. Adrian tried to fight back, but it only caused the citizens to fight back harder; they even created an army – the Comunero Force. This made Adrian flee the country, but the citizens were not satisfied yet; they went after their former ruler – Charles V. They demanded several requests from him, but the king refused to listen. The revolution came to an end when the Comuneros lost in the Battle of Villalar in April of 1521.
The significance of the Comuneros Revolution is not as obvious here, as there have been many revolutions in history. However, it is significant to Bernard Bailyn’s article Atlantic History: Concepts and Contours. It provides detail describing the conditions, characteristics, and happenings of the Atlantic World. It is understandable what the Comuneros did because they wanted to be ruled by someone who knew what they were doing and did not steer from tradition, which was very important to the Spanish peoples.
