From 5560 to 5700 A.F, to the east of the Black Mountains, the Western Marchmen constantly fought the encroaching Niramil who gradually migrated into their land, conquering it by force.

Their conflicts spilled over into the Iorádhine territories of the Buíthinian Silk-Holds in 5560, when several large armies of western Marchmen crossed the Golden Valley and began raiding eastern Iorádh, greatly damaging Artokia and Ardasepa, laying siege to several Silk-Holds and nearly reaching Piktavia.

The Dráchanathair Guard and the Thirteen Commanderies were able to drive the Western Marchmen back through the Golden Valley after almost 3 years of fighting. For the next 390, endemic warfare plagued Buíthinia as the Iorádhines constantly clashed with Niramil and Western Marchmen over territory in the eastern Black Mountains.

The unending skirmishes and endemic warfare put great strain on the Iorináreth's treasury and demanded constant attention from its armies. The Mountain Wars allowed the Dráchanathair to gain immense influence in the Iorináreth thanks to their vital role in defending Buíthinia at all times, which eventually led to them gaining de facto control over most of the Iorináreth's government.

After their disbanding by Beltouthos II 'the Elder', the Mountain Wars were mostly fought by the Buíthinian and Artokian Commanderies, which were unable to prevent the sacks of Neritánnos and Dorsunnír by the Western Marchmen.
Catoncarix II strengthened the Thirteen Commanderies and stationed much of the Cróganathair Guard in Buíthinia, recovering both Silk-Holds and giving the Iorádhines a decisive advantage in the Wars.

The Mountain Wars continued into the reign of Adourynn the Meek, in whose reign the Cróganathair Guard was weakened and the Thirteen Commanderies gained control over most of the Iorináreth's armies. However, the Guard remained mostly stationed in Buíthinia and the Golden Valley, and with the support of the Commanderies of Artokia, Buíthinia and Ardasepa, the Mountain Wars did not threaten the Iorináreth's stability again until their end in 5700.
