1451-1504 AD: Isabella of Castile was a pivotal queen of Castile and León, daughter of John II of Castile and Isabel of Portugal. Defying her brother Enrique IV's marriage plans, she secretly wed Ferdinand II of Aragon in 1469, uniting their realms into modern Spain. Their youngest child, Catherine of Aragon, later married Henry VIII of England. Following her brother's death, Isabella contested her niece Juana for the throne, ultimately securing her reign. Isabella and Ferdinand jointly ruled, supporting Christopher Columbus' expeditions to the New World and signing a 1492 truce establishing Spain as a Christian nation. After her death, her daughter Joanna of Castile succeeded her.
