Time frame shown is his influence in political life in Judea, under the Hasmoneans and the Romans. The father of Herod the Great, he used his influence to lay the foundation to Herod's ascension to the throne. He served as the first Roman Procurator of Judea. Antipater was an Edomite (Idumean) whose family converted to Judaism in the second century BCE during the forced conversions of John Hyrcanus I.
