Truman Doctrine:
• Truman was concerned that communism would spread across Europe
• Doctrine stated that the USA could use economic and military means to ensure communists didn’t spread and was contained in eastern Europe

Consequences of Containment:
• Economically, politically and socially divided Europe. The west became more prosperous, wealthy and democratic under US backed capitalist economies while the east became downtrodden, poorer and authoritarian under Soviet backed command economies.
