The Khmer Rouge, otherwise known as the Communist Party of Kampuchea, was created after the first Indochina war. It was headed by Pol Pot, and was thrown into the spotlight when the Vietnamese war spilled into Cambodia. During purges, anyone from the educated to the elderly could be killed. Even Khmer Rouge members could be victims of the genocide.
