The Cambodian Genocide (17 apr 1975 anni – 7 gen 1979 anni)
Descrizione:
During this time period, the Cambodian Genocide occurred. Approximately 2.5 million people, or roughly a quarter of the entire Cambodian population, were killed. Around 40% of these people were members of the Vietnamese, Chinese, and Muslim minorities in Cambodia. The genocide was a social engineering project aimed at transforming Cambodia into a classless, socialist utopia. Therefore, Pol Pot also aimed to destroy the Cambodian intellectual class since he believed they would be an obstacle to reaching communism. Of the 2.5 million people who died, 60% of them died from mass execution which occurred in the renowned killing fields (which were mass graves), with the rest succumbing to disease, starvation, and exhaustion.
