The 1947–1948 civil war in Mandatory Palestine began after the UN recommended partitioning the region on November 29, 1947. By April 1948, Zionist forces launched Plan Dalet, capturing territories designated for a Jewish state and other areas from the 1947 UN Partition Plan. Following the British Mandate's end on May 14, 1948, and Israel's declaration of independence, neighboring Arab states invaded, escalating the conflict into the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. This period also saw the strengthening of Zionist militias, prompted by increasing Arab hostilities and British immigration limits, setting the stage for ongoing conflict.
