14th and 15th Amendment (1 gen 1868 anni – 1 gen 1870 anni)
Descrizione:
During Reconstruction, certain amendments to the Constitution were made in an effort to establish equality for black Americans. In 1868, the 14th amendment extended liberties and rights granted by the Bill of Rights to formerly enslaved people. “All persons born or naturalized in the United States” were granted citizenship to the US. This also required equal protection to all people.
In 1870, the 15th amendment was added and granted African American men the right to vote. The amendment generally prevented the denial of a citizen’s vote based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude.
