Off the coast of Cuba there were large tensions between the U.S. and the Soviet Union because the Soviets had a nuclear base 90 miles from the U.S. shores. When Americans heard about this many became fearful of nuclear warfare breaking out. But luckily this was avoided due to an agreement made between the U.S. and the Soviet Union where they agreed to remove their missiles on Cuba in exchange for the U.S. removing theirs from Turkey and agreeing to not invade Cuba
