Normandy landings (6 giug 1944 anni – 19 agos 1944 anni)

Descrizione:

D-Day refers to the invasion of the Normandy beaches in northern France on June 6, 1944, by forces from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other nations during World War II. The amphibious assault, code-named Operation Overlord, landed around 156,000 Allied soldiers on the beaches of Normandy by the end of the day. Despite their victory, the German soldiers guarding the beaches killed almost 4,000 Allied soldiers. Within a few days, over 326,000 troops, more than 50,000 vehicles, and roughly 100,000 tons of equipment had arrived in what was at the time the greatest naval, aviation, and ground operation in history. By August 1944, all of northern France had been freed, and the Allies had vanquished the Germans by spring 1945. D-Day is frequently referred to by historians as the start of the end of World War II.
