Ikhshidid dynasty (1 gen 935 anni – 1 gen 969 anni)
Descrizione:
The Ikhshidid dynasty, of Turkic Mamluk origin, ruled Egypt and the Levant from 935 to 969 under the Abbasid caliphs. Founded by Muhammad ibn Tughj al-Ikhshid, the dynasty's rule ended when the Fatimid army conquered Fustat in 969. The Ikhshidids, deriving their name from the Central Asian title "Ikhshid," signified their governance as "Wāli" or governors for the Abbasids. Muhammad al-Ikhshid was appointed governor twice, with his second term beginning in 935 amid regional conflicts. During his rule, stability and economic growth were notable until his death in 946, after which his successors continued to manage threats from the Fatimids and internal discord until the dynasty's eventual fall. The Ikhshidids utilized black slave troops for infantry due to financial constraints, contrasting with the more expensive Turkic cavalry slaves. The dynasty's legacy includes minimal architectural remains, with the notable exception being the Mashhad of Al-Tabataba in Cairo.
