Philistia (1 gen 1175 anni a. C. – 1 gen 604 anni a. C.)

Descrizione:

Philistia was a confederation of five main cities in the Southwest Levant: Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdod, Ekron, and Gath, and for a time, Jaffa. Scholars suggest that the Philistines were of Aegean background, settling in the area around 1200 BC and mixing with the local Canaanite population. They came to be known as Peleset or Philistines. At its peak, Philistia's territory likely extended along the Canaanite coast from Arish in Egypt to the Yarkon River (Tel Aviv) and inland to Ekron and Gath. Nebuchadnezzar II invaded Philistia in 604 BC, incorporating the territory into the Neo-Babylonian Empire, after which the Philistines vanish from historical records.
