During this period, the influence from the mainland increased strongly. It was a time of transformation for the Japanese society. Japan adopted many Chinese techniques in weaving, lacquer-ware, metallurgy, orchestral music, dance, architecture, sculpture, and painting. Japan either changed certain Chinese practices to fit their culture or rejected them entirely. Chinese food and eating habits were not accepted during this time.
