The Incan Empire (1 gen 1438 anni – 1 gen 1533 anni)
Descrizione:
By far the largest empire of Pre-Colombian America, the Inca controlled a vast swathe of land that ran along the west coast of South America from modern Ecuador to Chile.
The final state of Andean heritage, they and the Olmec are the two cultures somewhat controversially acknowledged as "Cradles of Civilization".
In the 15th century, the modest kingdom of Cusco came to conquer many of its neighbours and become the dominant power in the region under the leadership of Pachacuti. He massively reformed its administration and crafted a model for empire building that would prove to be hugely successful as one by one his neighbours were brought into the fold, by diplomacy or conquest.
All this was done without complex metallurgy, wheels, horses or a system of writing. Complex feats of engineering were managed and hundreds of miles of territory administrated in an economy that has been described by a wide variety of labels. Through a combination of taxation, central planning and a strong cultural tradition of reciprocity the Inca were able to flourish without a complex internal market economy, as existed throughout much of the old world.
