Anne, the first Queen of Great Britain, died childless after many miscarriages and children who died in infancy.

Since the Glorious Revolution resulted in Catholics being barred from succession, the next candidate to the throne had to be a Protestant, and so George of Hanover, a descendant of James VI, was chosen to be King of Great Britain as George I.

His son, great-grandson and great-great-grandson would all come to throne as George the II, III and IV respectively giving the era the "Georgian" name.

These Kings would find their powers more and more diminished, and none of them put up significant resistance to this process, unlike the Stuarts. As such the monarchy continued to lose power and influence.
