Voltaire was a writer, philosopher, and historian of the Enlightenment Era. He's known for his progressive criticism of the slavery and Christianity (the Roman Catholic Church in particular). He produced texts of almost every type of literature, including poems, plays, novels, essays, etc.
The name Voltaire is his pen name, his real name is Francois-Marie d'Arouet. He was born in Paris, but spent time in London, Geneva, and Berlin throughout his lifetime.
Voltaire's works were a large influence to the Enlightenment, introducing concepts and authors (such as Locke).
