World war 2 was a huge battle between 2 groups of countries, the allies and the axis, to the Germans.
It was one of most deadliest wars in history, where huge armies fought on land, sky and sea. Before world war 2 started, Germany was ruled by a man named Adolf Hitler. Together with the Nazi party, he wanted Germany to rule Europe. To get more land and power, on the 1st of September 1939, German troops invaded Poland.
By the summer of 1941, Germany had invaded most of Europe, including countries like France, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Yugoslavia and the USSR. After Hitler refused to stop invading countries, Britain and France declared war on Germany.
Around the same time that Germany fought for power in Europe, Japan wanted power over a bunch of Asian countries. They started invading China, bringing many years of conflict between the countries after that.
This was how world war 2 started.
