The Great Game was an 80-year riverly between the Abbasid Caliphate and the Tang Chinese Empire, both vying for influence in Transoxiana and nearby Turkic factions. The Selaiki people supported the Tang Empire. Both empires used military interventions, political intregues and diplomatic negotiations to control the profitable Silk Road that passed through their territories. The rivalry reached its peak during the battle of Shirin in the mid-6th century, which resulted in the end of further Islamic expansion and the strengthening of Selaiki-Chinese relations.
