1981 - : Reagan Revolution gives voice to white majority unease with civil rights and progressive reform (20 gen 1981 anni – 20 gen 2050 anni)

Descrizione:

Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich led a neoconservative renaissance, fueled in part by reviving much of the Kennedy era's tactics and objectives in a renewed stance against the foundations of communism, challenging Moscow and its proxies on a clandestine, political, and ideological level. This foreign policy translated into domestic politics where Democratic political opposition began to be conflated with socialism; introducing a less collegial and cooperative internal politics and a warlike stance against political competition.
After the defeats of the 1960s in Vietnam and Cuba, Reagan revived an aggressive foreign policy, again using American power around the world, defending sympathetic dictatorial regimes and using American power more freely against non-cooperating nations.
At the same time on American soil, Reagan took advantage of the discontent of a "silent majority" or conservative silent majority to stop and reverse the advance of the "counterculture" or anti-traditional social movements of the 1960s. Conservative spokesmen attacked civil rights advances pacifism , the “sexual revolution” etc. These activities laid the foundation for the dismantling and repeal of many of the liberal reforms of the 1960s in which minorities received rights that had previously been denied. Conservatives managed to label the liberal movement with their own words of protest, as anti-traditional, and even pro-communist... thus confusing the terms to date, and preparing an eventual split in US politics into two left vs. right bands.
