The Balu'a Stele, found north of Al-Karak in the region of Moab, is thought to date somewhere between 1309-1151 BC. It shows a king, resembling one of the Shasu groups, with two Egyptian gods. This is evidence Moab was likely active and attempting to emulate the styles of the Egyptians.
Pharaoh Horemhab campaigned against Shasu (Egyptian = "wanderers")[citation needed] living in nomadic pastoralist tribes, who had moved across the Jordan River (Moabites with help of Ammonites and Amalekites?) to threaten Egyptian trade through Galilee and Jezreel. If the oppression ending around the time of Seti's campaign, the timing fits well with the historical account of the "Shasu" crossing the Jordan to threaten egyptian trade.
