Included underground canals that improved agriculture (which led to population growth to a new extreme).
Darius's administration system kept the Empire together for a long time.
Iron spread really fast and was a common material.

The were e x t r e m e l y c a r e f u l to respect the people they conquered.
They didn't want angry subjects.
Cyrus portrayed himself in Mesopotamia as a Babylonian ruler rather than a Persian one, and Darius allowed Jews to rebuild their temple in Jerusalem, for example. They wanted people to like them, or at least to be okay with them.
It was destroyed by Alexander of Macedon, but the Persian Empires following it still kept its culture and influence.
