Four hours after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Japan started to invade Hong Kong. The Japanese quickly gained air superiority over Hong Kong, which since 1842, had been under British rule. The Allies were outnumbered 4 to 1 and had 2 airplanes and 3 torpedo bombers, that were eventually blown down. On the afternoon of December 25, 1941, the governor of Hong Kong, Sir Mark Aitchison Young, surrendered in person at the Japanese headquarters.
