The Safavid Dynasty began with Isma'il and his tribes, who took back Iran from the foreign powers that had conquered Iran. Ism'ail then named himself Shah. The dynasty was powerful and highly organized and Shi'a Islam became a major part of politics and culture. Especially during this time, trade grew and the roads built were known to export silks and textiles.
