After a week the murder of Manuel Ramos, the
Young Lords Organization joined the Poor Peoples Coalition (PPC) in holding a rally on the grounds of the Presbyterian McCormick Theological Seminary. The seminary had involvement in and support of urban renewal projects in the neighborhood. They had $600,000 in funds for investment. The PPC demanded that money be used to fund low-income housing, daycare, a health clinic, a low-income law office, and a Puerto Rican cultural center. On May 12th, there was no positive response from the administration. So the PCC decided to occupy the Seminary's new building. On May 14th they seized the building at midnight and renamed it the Manuel Ramos Memorial Building.
