Second Great Awakening (1 gen 1790 anni – 1 gen 1840 anni)

Descrizione:

Revival of religion, focused on Protestant revival and spread. Lots of women convert, since they lose their jobs when manufacturing moved out of the home into the city. Largely appealed to traditionally oppressed members of society, more focus on individual faith. Also generated new social activism, such as ideas of temperance.
Caused by a reaction to the Enlightenment (too much focus on reason, not religion).
