Descrizione:

After the Great Schism, the Byzantine Empire entered a long period of decline. Muslim Turkish invaders pressed the Eastern borders. The continued failed crusades also weakened the empire. There was governmental corruption as there often is at the end of empires. Although the Byzantine empire was declining it was still a major trading power. The Byzantine empire was also crucial to the spread of Christianity which is now the world's most practiced religion.
