1920: Fritz Polare & Bobby Marshall as the first black football players in the NFL

1936: Jesse Owens was the most successful athlete—of any race, and became the first American track and field athlete to win four gold medals at a single Olympic Games in Berlin (a humiliating moment for the Nazis because in their minds there was no way for black peoples to win)

1947: Jackie Robinson who became the first black Major League Baseball player in the modern era and broke the color barrier for African Americans in Baseball
