Intervention in Cholera Outbreak in Dadaab Refugee Camp, Kenya (8 nov 2015 anni – 8 giug 2016 anni)
Descrizione:
Médecins Sans Frontières and the International Rescue Committee established cholera treatment centers, and active surveillance for cases of acute watery diarrhea was increased. A health promotion and hygiene campaign was carried out, primarily through the mobilization of community health workers (from 168 during the outbreak's first few weeks to 286) and hygiene promoters, as well as the use of media networks, particularly radio. Stakeholders held frequent coordination meetings to provide updates and revise recommendations. Borehole water was chlorinated, soap was distributed, and affected households' bedding and latrines were disinfected. WASH partners were advised to maintain adequate chlorination levels, build more tap stands and latrines (particularly in unofficial settlement areas), and install more handwashing facilities in schools, eateries, and marketplaces.
