Smallpox mitigation led by Onesimus (1 gen 1721 anni – 1 gen 1722 anni)
Descrizione:
An enslaved African gentleman played a critical role in mitigating the effects of a smallpox epidemic in Boston, Massachusetts. Following the outbreak of a smallpox epidemic in Boston in 1721, Mather used his knowledge to advocate for population inoculation, a technique later adopted by other colonies.
In 1726 and 1722, respectively, Boston and London conducted trials on citizens, and inoculation reduced the mortality rate from 17% to 2% of the infected population.
