American mathematician and Nobel laureate known for his contributions to game theory and the theory of markets. Shapley is best known for co-inventing the Gale-Shapley algorithm for the stable matching problem, and for his work on the Shapley value, a concept in cooperative game theory that assigns a value to each player in a game based on their contributions to the game.
