The great depression was the worst economic downfall in all of us history.

Causes:
1. The stock market crash in October of 1929 signalled the start of the great depression
2. By November the stock market prices had fell 30% since the September stock market costs
3. The American government loaned Germany money so that they could pay off the treaty of Versailles, which meant that they had less money but they weren’t allowed to print more money.

Effects:
1. The great depression affected millions of people, as of 1933 25% of Americans were unemployed which was 13 million people. People who managed to keep their jobs suffered pay cuts from 3 percent or more.
2. Some people that had lost their jobs would only be able to eat a doughnut, sometimes soup and a coffee for the whole day
3. In the earlier years of the great depression president hoover didn’t want to interfere in the crisis, but later changed his decision and lent 2 billion dollars to American banks
