A Native American Revolt in the late 17th century (1680) in New Mexico against the Spanish was successful in expelling the Spanish for over 10 years. When the Spanish came back, they took a more accommodating approach by giving some N.A some religious freedom to void another violent revolt.

Reasons for rebellion: Spanish Prist suppressed. N.A practice (b/c they had dolls (idolatry) which the Spanish opposed) and they were "Christianized")

What happened: Pope (their religious leader) killed hundred of Spaniards and forced them to flee. (about 12 yrs with no Spanish rule)

Significance/Result: Spanish sought to religiously assimilate the Pueblos after, which ultimately gave Pueblos more freedom . (Better relationship)
