Seleucids (1 gen 327 anni a. C. – 1 gen 64 anni a. C.)
Descrizione:
The Seleucid Empire rose out of the ashes of Alexander the Great's conquests. Seleucus I founded the empire and sought to rebuild the empire of the Achaemenids. He expanded the empire east and west facing off against the superior Mauryan Empire with their elephants. This resulted in the introduction of elephants as a key strategy for the Seleucids in battle later on. Megasthenes would become the first diplomat to the Mauryan Empire.
The Seleucids left behind numerous coins and inscriptions for archeologists and historians to reconstruct their path. Antiochus the Great expanded the empire. Antiochus VI is remembered for the Maccabean Revolt under his leadership. Their empire was characterized by many languages and building a trade route between India and the Mediterranean.
Eventually, this empire fell as a result of two front expansion towards the powerful Mauryan and Roman Empires.
