Cyrus the Great (1 gen 559 anni a. C. – 1 gen 529 anni a. C.)

Descrizione:

Cyrus the Great made Persia into an empire. He is part of the line of the Achaemenids. Cyrus is known for uniting Persia, conquering the Babylonian Empire, and creating a lasting empire.

His origin myth tells the story of his childhood and ascension to power. It says that his father feared a dream interpretation that his daughter's son would be king in his place and ordered for him to be killed. The herder in charge of killing him as an infant decided to raise Cyrus as his own in place of his recently stillborn son. Eventually, his manner of ruling over fellow children in a game on the streets lead to his discovery. Following this, he would eventually become king. This innate superiority and leadership with fate on his side were foundational elements to this story which enforced his power as king.

Cyrus was a great military leader. In the wake of his success on the battlefield ruled tolerantly and unlike the Babylonians and Assyrians before him, he allowed his subjects to retain their beliefs and culture. As a result, shortly after he captured Babylon in 539 BCE, he allowed the Jews to return to their home in Jerusalem.
