The Plombieres meeting (1 gen 1858 anni – 1 giug 1858 anni)
Descrizione:
The Plombieres meeting 1858 - a secret meeting between Napoleon III and Cavour to discuss their relationship and the situation with Piedmont as well as potential war with Austria. Napoleon III agreed to help Cavour in a war against Austria if Cavour could find some way to make Austria start it. They also agreed to these terms:
Italy would be divided into the four states of Upper Italy (Piedmont, mostly, ruled by the royal Piedmont family), Central Italy (all Papal states save for Rome, combined with Tuscany), Naples+Sicily (stuck together), and Rome+surrounding area (ruled by the Pope). The four states would form a confederation, with the Pope serving as president - no full union would be made so that other countries would not get suspicious of Italy’s motives, and because a fully united Italy would threaten France.
Napoleon III would send 200000 men to Italy to aid in war efforts.
France would receive Savoy as a reward, and it was later agreed that it would receive Nice as well.
