Enduring Understanding: The process of creating the founding documents was defined by compromise as the founders attempted to negotiate the divide between Federalists and Anti-Federalists to define the powers of the US federal and state governments. The conflict resulted in a bicameral legislature and the Bill of Rights but failed to protect or acknowledge the rights of enslaved people.

The Jacksonians presented a social vision in which any white man would have the chance to secure his economic independence, and would be free to live as he saw fit, under a system of laws and representative government utterly cleansed of privilege. Jackson basically created a democracy focusing on white man equality, it lead to other groups like nativism. Nativism is where people who are nativists are against immigration into America. The whig party was the opposite of Jacksonian democracy where people feared that Jackson would use the military to affiliate his power.

The market revolution sparked explosive economic growth and new personal wealth, but it also created a growing lower class of property-less workers and devastating depressions, called “panics.” Many Americans labored for low wages and became trapped in endless cycles of poverty. The South went from subsistence farming to commercial farming and the North grew in mechanization and industrialization. Also, the North economy relied on the manufacturing and agricultural production of the Southern economy of cotton. While the desire for cotton in the Southern economy, strengthen their need for slavery, so they enslaved African Americans in order to benefit from it.
