Period 3: Revolutionary Era (1 gen 1754 anni – 1 gen 1783 anni)

Descrizione:

Enduring Understanding: The end of salutary neglect as a result of the French and Indian war led the colonists to declare independence. They garnered support for independence through a variety of means including art and idea pamphlets based on things such as the First Great Awakening and the Enlightenment. However, these ideas of liberty and equality were not inclusive.

3a:Prompt: Evaluate the factors that contributed to the American revolution (include at least 3 factors).

There are many factors that contributed to the American Revolution. One major factor is Britain imposing taxes and enforcing tighter control over the colonists and this angered the colonists as many wanted to go back to salutary neglect and they didn't want taxes forced on them. Many colonists believed in the slogan "no taxation without representation" because they didn't even have a governing body but are being taxed by a global power. Through these harsh acts, Britain mistreated the colonists making them even more frustrated. In addition, enlightenment ideas influenced and encouraged colonists to fight for independence and to have a government that actually represents them.

3b: Prompt: Describe the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and how that shaped the Constitution.

The Articles of Confederation was a very weak document for multiple reasons. Due to the heightening fear of a powerful government to prevent a dictatorship, a weak central government was formed, There were no executive branches and laws were extremely difficult to pass. In addition, for amendments to be made, all of the 13 states must agree and this was nearly impossible. In addition, each state had its own currency which further divided the states and hindered trade. This made this newly fledging country very dysfunctional. It was nearly impossible for the Articles of Confederatrion create a stong nation.
