Period of Northern
and Southern Courts
(Nanbokuchō period)
(1336-1392) (1 gen 1336 anni – 1 gen 1392 anni)
Descrizione:
60-year war between Northern and Southern
court factions, with various lords supporting one or the other side High intensity conflict, especially at the beginning Southern court supporters hold out for a long time in Kantō and Kyushu, but ultimately surrender in 1392 The third Ashikaga Shōgun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, solves the conflict by promising to go back to alternating between family lines, but this doesn't happen and the Northern court/line continues. (Technically, it's the Southern family line that is the 'legitimate' line, according to geneaology)
