Founded in the 12th century by Chinggis Khan, and reached its greatest territorial extent in the 13th century. Mongols - horseback/archers/nomadic people of the steppes. (1206-1368). Eventually split into four regions. The Pax Mongolica was significant because it opened up trade between China and Europe for the first time in history.
