Col Andrew Williamson's Indian Campaign (1 lugl 1776 anni – 31 agos 1776 anni)

Descrizione:

Col Andrew Williamson's campaign against the Cherokee was part of a coordinated effort by the Patriot governments of Virginia, North and South Carolina conducted between July and December of 1776. To began the campaign, Col Williamson gathered a militia force of 1,150 men. The Cherokee and colonist had been at war since the early 1700's as the frontier pushed westward. Once the revolutionary war began, the Cherokee aligned with the British because they thought the British would not take their land. Col Williamson's campaign effectively drove the Cherokee from their traditional lands destroying their towns, villages, supplies, and food stuffs. This campaign effectively removed the Indian threat on the western frontier during the revolutionary period. The campaign covered a large area so the point indicates the center of the general area of the campaign.
